The church is surrounded by people in strange yellow robes, all of them armed. With just you and the Professor there, you're outnumbered. You manage to sneak around to a side of the church that has a window, climbing in one at a time. You slowly make your way through the building, the Professor right behind you.
You follow the relentless chanting of a chorus of voices, coming at last into a large main hall. There, you see a massive sacrificial altar, upon which is a fresh sacrifice; the woman's blood boiling upon the altar after it leaves her body. The room is dimly lit, save for a bright beam of bluish green light shining upon the altar. At a pulpit near the altar, a man in particularly ornate robes chants the loudest from an ancient, weathered book. In his hand is the very talisman you seek!
"There!" The Professor points to the talisman. "We could perhaps shoot it from here?"
While you could probably hit the talisman from where you are, that would gain the attention of the thirty other cultists inside. The two of you decide first to sabotage the building and set it on fire. To this end, you find the maintenance area and detach the gas lines therein, allowing the gas to flow freely into the room. With your combined knowledge, you rig a firebomb from the common (and not-so common) chemicals to be found in the room. You return to the main altar room, where the high priest is now holding the talisman above his head, a swirling red mist surrounding him. Borrowing the Professor's .38, you take aim...and fire!
The timing couldn't have been more perfect. The bomb explodes just after the talisman is shot out of the high priest's hands, causing the red mist to dissipate immediately, and the light beam on the altar to fade. You and the Professor run to the exit...
Unfortunately, you forgot about the cultists guarding the front. You manages to gun down two with your shotgun before you take a bullet to the chest and a knife to your side. The Professor falls as well, likewise shot and stabbed in multiple places.
The last things you see are the remaining cultists running back inside to contain the raging fire you started. You take comfort in the fact that the world is safe for now because of your efforts, though it cost you your life.
Darkness finally comes over you, as your life ends.
